Forget Smoke Alarms, Now We Have Water Alarms!
If you thought smoke alarms were the only things saving your home from disaster think again! A startup called “Floodwatch” has been busy creating contactless, ceiling mounted water detection technology all packed away into a small device. The device works quite simply by detecting any water leakage in the area under the installation and alert people who would have to know in case of flooding using optics and infrared light. The sensor can detect water within an area with 40″ diameter.
This technology may be particularly useful in your basement where water damage is most likely to happen. Apparently this technology could save about $7 billion in water damage claims thanks to early detection of leakage and flooding. Since the system wires directly into the building’s security systems it also gives you some piece of mind knowing that someone is one the way to avoid the damage even when you don’t know that water is leaking somewhere in your house.
