Canadian company Lymbix has created a program that works with Microsoft Outlook to check our e-mails for inappropriate emotion before they are sent. ToneCheck makes sure the e-mail has clarity and conveys the proper tone, and at least gives the writer a chance to review the e-mail before it’s sent. This program could be especially useful in business communications, where tone is not only important but could make a difference between simply reminding someone of a meeting and hurting someone’s feelings. ToneCheck has a hard time detecting emotions like sarcasm and irony, but does allow writers to be aware of how their words could be perceived.
