Great Idea: Light Only When You Need It

The city of Barcelona is embracing some smart technology to reduce consumption of electricity by about 30%. The city has just implemented a LED based street light project that allows the city to turn street lights on or off based on the need. For example, if a street is empty why bother turning the street lights on? But if a pedestrian walks into the street the lights come on – all this in real time.
The lights called “Endesa LED Lights” are controlled wirelessly via the internet to the level of controlling the intensity of the light being produced by the LED lighting. Great thinking, smart city. Video after the break.
